Councillor Jill Sumner

Jill Sumner
I have lived in St Anne’s on the Sea for most of my life, was educated at St.Thomas and Queen Mary Schools. My working years have been spent in Banking, insurance, school teaching and finally running my own shop. I am married to Arnold Sumner. We have a son, daughter and one grandson all living in St Annes. I was a founder member of the steering group which set up the Parish Council ( now the town council) 5 years ago at that time I helped with the campaign to save Ashton Gardens and the Town hall from developers. I’ve been a member of St Annes Chamber of Trade for many years and supported my husband who has worked tirelessly for St Annes. During my time as councillor I’ve been involved with the planning committee, the allotments revival, which is now running very smoothly and as a representative for the Town Council on the beach users committee operated by Fylde Borough Council. Much time and energy was spent trying to save St Annes Baths from closure, but in vain. Hopefully this will be reinstated in the near future. I have been interested in the supporters of Ashton Gardens and serve as their treasurer. I am also a member of the Civic Awareness Group. During 2009/10 I have assisted our Mayor Tony Ford as his deputy. Now that we have a base in the West Lodge and additional staff the future is looking brighter.
