Councillor Tony Ford

Tony Ford
I became a Town Councillor in May 2007 representing Ashton Ward. I am currently the Mayor of the Town Council, representing the council and its members at various functions and events throughout St. Anne’s. I chair all the Town Council Meetings and also oversee the Allotment Committee. I am relishing the challenge of developing the various activities of the Council and take great delight in the fact that we now have a base from which to operate right in the centre of the town and that we have staff working for the benefit of all the town’s residents.
Prior to becoming involved with the Town Council I was the Headteacher of a large primary school in Thornton Cleveleys but opted for early retirement in August 2006 with a view to spending more time on my allotment and enjoying a quieter existence. However I am now busier than ever, spending my time dealing with council matters, sitting as a Magistrate in Blackpool, working as a volunteer on the East Lancs Railway and being involved in many more community activities in the town.
I am a member of Fylde Rugby Club, Blackpool and Fylde Rail User Group (BAFRU), Lytham Heritage Group and Lytham Civic Society. I am Vice Chairman and Secretary of the recently re-formed Twinning Association.
I have a keen interest in local history and am eager to see the retention of buildings with character and/or historical significance in St. Anne’s. I have enjoyed helping to revamp the St. Anne’s Town Trail and took great delight in showing a group of Twin Town visitors from Werne in Germany round St. Anne’s last year.
I have supported a number of community events and activities and am thoroughly enjoying my time as Mayor. I have got to meet so many interesting people and, although I am no longer in school, I find I am learning something new wherever I go.
I represent Ashton Ward on both the Town Council and Fylde Borough Council.
